Man indicted for the murder of rapper Takeoff

Patrick Clark, 33, was indicted on murder charges in a Harris County court on Thursday.

The man suspected to be responsible for the 2022 shooting death of Migos rapper Takeoff, given name Kirsnick Khari Ball, was indicted on murder charges by a Harris County grand jury on Thursday.

The indictment means Patrick Clark, 33, now stands formally charged with murder in connection to the shooting that left Ball dead outside the third-floor entrance of 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston in the early morning hours of November 1, 2022. As reported by FOX 26, the indictment did not come as a surprise to Clark's attorneys, who aim to prove their client's innocence in the trial to come.

"Today's action by the grand jury is not unexpected. We would ask people to remember that getting an indictment requires meeting a very, very minimal standard of proof," attorney Letitia Quinones-Hollins said in a statement Thursday, per FOX 26. "When we get inside a courtroom and in front of a jury, where we will be able to put on our evidence and cross-examine the state's witnesses—where the standard of proof is guilt beyond reasonable doubt—we expect the jury will come back with a verdict of not guilty."

Clark was arrested in December after weeks of investigations into Ball's death. The rapper was seemingly an innocent bystander of a shooting that occurred after an argument over a dice game broke out outside the billiard hall. Authorities said that 34 people had gathered outside 810 Billiards following a private late-night party hosted at the venue. Two others were wounded in the shooting but survived. Local authorities stated during a December news conference that Clark had been forensically identified as the individual who fired the shots that killed Ball.

"We had to rely on a large volume of video, cell phone, things that surfaced over time," said HPD Homicide Division Sgt. Michael Burrow after Clark's arrest. "We had to sift through that, physical evidence, shooting evidence and things that surfaced over time.

"Through that we were able to deduce that Patrick Clark was the shooter, and he is charged with murder,” Burrow said.

A "concerned citizen" posted Clark's $1 million bail in January, and the 33-year-old has since been on house arrest and required to wear a GPS monitoring device.
